The simple comic look of Becastled fits in with the basic design philosophy. For the most part, the game focuses on the essentials. The developers know that players here primarily want to watch as one invasion force after the next crashes into their medieval defenses. Therefore, the construction of your tranquil little settlement is not overly complicated. At the beginning only a very small area is open to you in which you set your keep and build a sawmill. With the wood you can then buy adjacent »cells« with new resources. Forests bring wood, quarries, unsurprisingly, stones, cows, sheep or wild boars become food. Nobody needs a degree in economics for this.

However, you always only have about nine minutes to prepare for attacks and should therefore consider very wisely whether you are going to build a windmill first or invest the time and resources in building a wooden wall and battlements. As soon as the time is up, night falls. Then dozens of warriors of darkness attack your castle and lead knights, catapults or troll-like creatures into battle. In this phase you can only scare away your available troops. If you then lack defenses and, above all, soldiers, you will have a problem that can hardly be solved.
