It will never get boring! Maki’s Adventure is a lovingly crafted Metroidvania, it’s more linear than open world exploration, but it’s mixed in with a healthy dose of backtracking and character missions that have you exploring the different islands. The pixel art’s well done, all the bosses feel memorable and have quite a lot of challenge tied to them. If you struggle with the game at all you can buy potions to have certain effects that might make a certain thing easier. The shark mechanic’s quite nice! The camera’s a little jarring when you jump into shark form but the 3 different teeth all have their perks and are used a fair amount. The 3D parts of the game are also quite awesome, even though the 2D game-play will take most of your time and the 3D is really just a novelty.
