Underrail is an old school turn-based isometric indie role playing game that focuses on exploration and combat. The game is set in a distant future, when the life on the Earth’s surface has long since been made impossible and the remnants of humanity now dwell in the Underrail, a vast system of metro station-states that, it seems, are the last bastions of a fading race.
The player takes control of one of the denizens of such a station-state whose life is about to become all that much more interesting and dangerous, as our protagonist is caught midst the conflicting factions of the Underrail as the violently struggle to survive in the harsh underground environment. Underrail is a turn-based role-playing game in isometric view. Developed mainly by one man since 2009, we can finally touch the end game. On the program we have fights, exploration, many quests and long hours of play. All this only in English that you have to master because the game is very talkative. As it takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, the curious neophyte will be able to think of yet another attempt to copy Fallout … But nay my good boy, and that, we will find out together. The character customization is quite extensive. You have of course characteristics, seven in number, but there is nothing particular to say about it since we remain on the classic. Then come the skills, in total twenty-two, separated into six categories: Offensive, Defensive, Subterfuge (which includes everything that is stealth, hacking, lockpicking and others), Technology (everything that is craft), Social and Psi. This last category includes the use of psychic powers, such as the manipulation of elements or spirits.
The clashes are therefore turn-based, can be triggered at any time by the player or by an enemy when he has spotted you. After an initiative roll, you’re left to your fate. During your turn you have two types of points. The movement points in yellow which, as the name suggests, are only used for your movements. Next are the action points, in green, which can be used for anything, even movements. You have a lot of possibilities to fight your opponents.
