Withering Rooms is a 2.5D horror adventure set in a procedurally generated Victorian mansion that changes each night. Sneak through Mostyn House to gather weapons, distractions, magical artifacts, keys, and crafting materials. A Truly unique horror game, never played anything like this in my life. Its simple game mechanics can be enjoyed by every age group and it is really scary at times, especially when you are in the basement and a witch is chasing after you. Some really unique puzzles and there is a special pattern to summon some of the big ghosts. You can use various kinds of weapons that you obtain through the playthrough and each time you die you have to start from scratch but you will get a basic knife and sometimes a random bonus weapon or some kind of buff.

I’m not normally much of a horror game player, so when the developer originally contacted me about Withering Rooms, I thought maybe I’d have a quick look at it and decide to pass. The game turned out to be pretty interesting – it generally avoids a bunch of cheap jump scares and instead uses the theme as a substrate for some cool lore & game systems (if you’ve ever played Darkwood, it’s basically that approach). Overall, the game is a sort of 2.5d survival horror that is somewhat reminiscent of Resident Evil. You’re trying to manage resources and strike a balance between sneaking past scary creatures or taking the calculated risk of fighting them directly.
