Again, this can be tricky, particularly as your new fighter starts off incredibly low leveled, but taking them through the progression is rewarding. Unfortunately, developer Yuke’s’ game engine feels stiff and dated. Not a huge surprise, it is! The team has not had a year off to rebuild since 2000. Despite having had a next gen visual overhaul a few years ago, characters remain wooden and often glide and jerk around the ring before entering canned animations rather than moving naturally.

New animations have been added as it pertains to the use of steel chairs. In previous versions, chairs would break unnaturally. This year, chair shots have new animations when used on the head or body of your opponent. The reversal system has also received a much-needed upgrade, but if you want to keep the old one, you can. Previously, experienced players could reverse almost every move during a match, which could get really frustrating after a while. In WWE 2K16, each Superstar or Diva begins the match with a specified amount of reversals and can earn more throughout the match. That system is far more fun, but some may not have had an issue with the original system. It’s great that the game will offer the best of both worlds.
